With our one and only ODV technology, you can:
- Eliminate chargebacks due to refused or delayed shipments
- Deliver 100% scannable barcodes to your production area every time, automatically
- Eliminate unscannable barcodes from entering into your supply chain distribution system
- Reduce labor costs and downtime with an unattended solution
- Capture and display the raw data within each barcode, to provide further assurance that critical data, such as serialized barcodes, print correctly
Find out how the Printronix Auto ID ODV solution can make your printing process more efficient and productive.
About the Manufacturer: For more than 40 years, Printronix has been addressing global customer needs for mission-critical industrial printing. Offering the two most-trusted brand names in back office and supply chain printing, Printronix and TallyGenicom, known throughout automotive, retail, food & beverage, government and utilities and transportation and logistics enterprises across the globe.
What advantages does the Printronix Auto ID solution offer for a labeling system?
Printronix Auto ID offers a unique solution as a closed loop printing output management tool enabling increased efficiency, reduced chargeback fines, and maximized uptime. Because the T8000 thermal printer is the most robust and easy to use printer in the industry, end users will have little to no difficulty with the equipment. Printronix Auto ID Online Data Validation (ODV) provides 100% barcode accuracy, assuring that a bad barcode will not be used and that the labels will scan when received at their destination point avoiding costly chargeback fines. PrintNet Enterprise allows remote management of the printers to enable instant updates of format and data changes. This software will collect the data from the printers to provide the backup material needed to support your 100% accuracy should a question arise from a label scan. Our professional services group has expertise in solving the compliance issues faced throughout the integrated supply chain. You’ll receive superior support and will benefit from their knowledge as they stand by you and your process implementation.
What are the benefits from an in-house labeling solution?
Barcoding your products and shipments will provide accurate sales tracking, plus capture inventory data for sales and manufacturing forecasts to increase operational efficiency. The use of compliance labeling will help eliminate packing and shipping errors, thus reducing operating costs and improving profits. Additional monetary benefits besides the actual reduction of chargebacks include accelerating the flow of goods through the supply chain to the consumer, which provides increased inventory turns and faster invoice payment.
What should I consider when implementing a labeling system for compliance requirements?
The first element to a labeling system is determining the output desired and the type of labels needed, whether they are product labels, container labels, shipping labels or any other types. Based on your specific operational requirements, Printronix Auto ID will work with you to determine the correct path for barcode implementation.
What steps can I take to begin my in-house compliance labeling project?
The first step is to create an internal cross-functional team, consisting of members from purchasing, shipping, credit, information systems, marketing and sales. Second, make sure that you have a manufacturer ID number (if applicable) from the Uniform Code Council (937-435-3870 or www.uc-council.org) and that products have UPC codes or customer item identifiers attached to each one (if applicable). Next, obtain all specification and vendor guidebooks from your customers.
Can I send analysis data to a PC?
Yes, we suggest you look at the Verifier Computer Interface Report. This allows downloading to your computer the inspection report, Scan Reflectance Profile, and generation of an Excel spreadsheet of multiple bar codes..
Do I need to inspect every barcode I print?
This depends on your agreements with your customers. In most cases a statistical sampling is sufficient. The frequency of the sample depends on many variables such as; print method, typical overall scan grade, potential variation in the printing system, size of the barcode, etc.
Do the barcodes have to have black bars?
No, you can use different colors. The key is to ensure that the contrast between the bars and the spaces is sufficient
Does a Laser Inspector or D4000 w/laser provide a “letter grade”?
No – not in respect to the situation where the letter grade means the ANSI/ISO Overall Symbol grade.
The laser modes for RJS portable verifiers provide traditional types of analyses. They do however include one of the ANSI/ISO parameters called Decodability (“d/bility” shown on the LCD) and this is displayed as a calculation value and a letter grade. This is one of the parameters that create an overall symbol grade and is useful for checking bar and space print accuracy in conjunction with the avg. bar deviation calculation. The D4000 Auto Optic is the correct unit if you need a full ISO/ANSI barcode verifier.
What is a 1D barcode and a 2D barcode?
- 1D is a category of barcodes with vertical black lines.
- Also known as linear barcodes.
- There are several fonts / languages of 1D barcodes.
- The longer the data, the longer the barcode becomes.
- 1D barcode is generally good for 8-15 characters.
- 1D and 2D barcode scanners can read 1D barcodes.
- Some popular 1D barcodes are: UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13, EAN-8, Code 39, & Code 128.
- 2D is a category of barcodes. Usually square or rectangle shaped with black pixels inside.
- Can store up to 2,000 characters. (200% increase over 1D barcodes)
- There are several fonts / languages of 2D barcodes.
- Can only be read with 2d imaging scanners.
- Some popular 2D barcodes are: QR code, PDF417, & Datamatrix.
What is a high density scanner/imager?
Some devices can be equipped with a high density scanner or imager which will allow superior barcode scanning performance on very small linear barcodes (3 mil or 0.003"), plus the versatility to read other common linear symbologies
What is the difference between the “Scan Grade” and the “Overall Symbol Grade?”
The Scan Grade is the result of a single inspection scan of the bar code symbol. The Overall Symbol Grade is an average of each individual Scan Grade. ISO/ANSI require a 10 scan average throughout the height of the symbol.
What is verification?
A standardized method for determined the quality of a barcode
What model portable verifier shall I use to analyze large direct marked barcodes on corrugated media?
The recommended model is D4000 Auto Optic scan head. The patented scan head includes a 20 mil aperture choice to meet industry standards. Additionally, the scanner’s size and feel makes it easy to scan corrugated material.
What model portable verifier should I use to analyze barcodes printed on a thermal or thermal transfer printer?
The recommended model is Inspector D4000 Auto Optic. This is the most economical ISO/ANSI verifier in the product line and will check all thermal printer failures. The particular failure that needs the ISO/ANSI/ method to detect is a failed print head element that causes a white stripe inside a bar of the barcode. This results in a low Overall Symbol Grade (C or less) due to a low Defects calculation.
Why should I verify my barcodes?
In order to prevent product rejection and possible fines you need to inspect your bar codes to ensure compliance with the ISO standards.
