The Webscan Optima 2D and Linear Bar Code Verifier is GS1 certified for both Linear and 2D bar codes through a connection to a PC, via a USB port. No special training or experience is required–using this verifier is as simple as placing the bar code verifier over the bar code and pushing a button. Features of this unit include:
- Simple image/bar code capture
- Automatic bar code inspection of multiple bar codes at one time
- Automated 10 scan average inspection
- Extensive troubleshooting for print optimization
- Full Pharmaceutical reporting and IQ/OQ audit trail conformance (optional)
- Dimensional measurement reporting
- Support of network database storage
The Optima inspects all of the ISO/ANSI parameters in compliance with ISO 15416 (linear), and ISO 15415 (2D), and more detailed analysis of the bar code is available with a few clicks of the mouse. The analysis will be color coded to show exactly where the problem is within the bar code. Sections of the bar code can be analyzed to better determine how to solve the problem.
About the Manufacturer: Webscan was founded in 1995 by Glenn Spitz, a key innovator in barcode development and an active barcode industry standards committee member. In total, he has over 30 years experience in the barcode industry and is the inventor or co-inventor on nearly 20 U.S. and foreign patents related to barcode reading and/or verification. At Webscan, their mission is simple: to save you money and time by ensuring your barcodes scan easily and accurately, every time. For nearly 20 years, Webscan, Inc. has been the leader in barcode verification. They’re the only independent manufacturer solely specializing in ANSI compliant verification.
Can I send analysis data to a PC?
Yes, we suggest you look at the Verifier Computer Interface Report. This allows downloading to your computer the inspection report, Scan Reflectance Profile, and generation of an Excel spreadsheet of multiple bar codes..
Do I need to inspect every barcode I print?
This depends on your agreements with your customers. In most cases a statistical sampling is sufficient. The frequency of the sample depends on many variables such as; print method, typical overall scan grade, potential variation in the printing system, size of the barcode, etc.
Do the barcodes have to have black bars?
No, you can use different colors. The key is to ensure that the contrast between the bars and the spaces is sufficient
Does a Laser Inspector or D4000 w/laser provide a “letter grade”?
No – not in respect to the situation where the letter grade means the ANSI/ISO Overall Symbol grade.
The laser modes for RJS portable verifiers provide traditional types of analyses. They do however include one of the ANSI/ISO parameters called Decodability (“d/bility” shown on the LCD) and this is displayed as a calculation value and a letter grade. This is one of the parameters that create an overall symbol grade and is useful for checking bar and space print accuracy in conjunction with the avg. bar deviation calculation. The D4000 Auto Optic is the correct unit if you need a full ISO/ANSI barcode verifier.
What is a 1D barcode and a 2D barcode?
- 1D is a category of barcodes with vertical black lines.
- Also known as linear barcodes.
- There are several fonts / languages of 1D barcodes.
- The longer the data, the longer the barcode becomes.
- 1D barcode is generally good for 8-15 characters.
- 1D and 2D barcode scanners can read 1D barcodes.
- Some popular 1D barcodes are: UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13, EAN-8, Code 39, & Code 128.
- 2D is a category of barcodes. Usually square or rectangle shaped with black pixels inside.
- Can store up to 2,000 characters. (200% increase over 1D barcodes)
- There are several fonts / languages of 2D barcodes.
- Can only be read with 2d imaging scanners.
- Some popular 2D barcodes are: QR code, PDF417, & Datamatrix.
What is a high density scanner/imager?
Some devices can be equipped with a high density scanner or imager which will allow superior barcode scanning performance on very small linear barcodes (3 mil or 0.003"), plus the versatility to read other common linear symbologies
What is the difference between the “Scan Grade” and the “Overall Symbol Grade?”
The Scan Grade is the result of a single inspection scan of the bar code symbol. The Overall Symbol Grade is an average of each individual Scan Grade. ISO/ANSI require a 10 scan average throughout the height of the symbol.
What is verification?
A standardized method for determined the quality of a barcode
What model portable verifier shall I use to analyze large direct marked barcodes on corrugated media?
The recommended model is D4000 Auto Optic scan head. The patented scan head includes a 20 mil aperture choice to meet industry standards. Additionally, the scanner’s size and feel makes it easy to scan corrugated material.
What model portable verifier should I use to analyze barcodes printed on a thermal or thermal transfer printer?
The recommended model is Inspector D4000 Auto Optic. This is the most economical ISO/ANSI verifier in the product line and will check all thermal printer failures. The particular failure that needs the ISO/ANSI/ method to detect is a failed print head element that causes a white stripe inside a bar of the barcode. This results in a low Overall Symbol Grade (C or less) due to a low Defects calculation.
Why should I verify my barcodes?
In order to prevent product rejection and possible fines you need to inspect your bar codes to ensure compliance with the ISO standards.
